The Hietman House was built in 1908 by Gilmer Heitman, a very prominent businessman and friend of Thomas Edison, Henry Ford and Harvey Firestone. The Gilmer Heitman House is one of only three surviving stately early - twentieth century residences that once lined the Caloosatchee riverfront near the city's beautiful downtown area. The house is a significant local example of Queen Anne style architecture and is one of the largest and most elaborate early 20th century residences in Fort Myers.
